JUNE 12 ,1993 Presidential election : NRC ( TOFA ) Vs SDP (ABIOLA)

Today is the 19th year anniversary of that historical election . Here we  bring to you the entire results , from NRC/SDP presidential primaries to general election results - state by state.

Flashback on Nigeria's aborted third Republic:
...while NRC held their Presidential primary on March 27 1993 in the Port Harcourt-Rivers State at the Civic center , SDP held theirs in Jos- Plateau State, at the Stadium .

It is of note that none of the Political Parties was able to produced a clear winner in the first ballot .below are the results:

NRC:

A. First Ballot;

Alhaji Bashir Tofa................4,472 votes.

Dr. Joe Nwodo...................1,813 votes.

Chief Pere Ajuwa...............1,404 votes.

SDP:

Chief M.K.O. Abiola...........3,617 votes.

Amb. Baba Gana Kingibe.....3,225 votes.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.......2,066 votes.

B. Second Ballot;

NRC:

Alhaji Bashir Tofa............4,281 votes.

Chief Pere Ajuwa.........575 votes.

Dr. Joe Nwodo..............99 votes.

SDP:

Chief M.K.O. Abiola ........2,683 votes.

Amb. Baba Gana Kingibe....2,456 votes.

( Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had stepped down after the first ballot).

Alhaji Bashir Tofa was declared the Presidential candidate of NRC ,

while Chief M.K.O. Abiola was declared the Presidential candidate of SDP for the June 12, 1993 Presidential election.

Total Registered voters =991,569.
NRC votes= 151,227 (58.96%)

SDP votes =105,273 (41.04%).

Total votes cast= 256,500.




2- Adamawa State:

Total Registered voters =954,680.

NRC votes=163,921(52.92%)

SDP votes =147,000(47.28%).

Total votes cast =310,921


3- Akwa Ibom State:

Total Registered voters =1,032,995.

NRC votes =199,342(48.14%).

SDP= 214,787(51.86%).

Total votes cast= 414,202


4- Anambra State:

Total Registered voters =1,248,226

NRC votes = 159,256(42.89%).

SDP votes = 212,024(57.11)


Total votes cast= 371,282


5- Bauchi State :

Total Registered voters=
2,048,627

 NRC votes =513,077 (60.56%)

SDP votes =334,197(39.44%)

Total votes cast =847,274


6- Benue State :

Total Registered Voters =1,297,072.

NRC votes =186,302(43.0%).

SDP votes =246,830(57.0%).

Total votes cast =433,132


7- Borno State:

Total Registered votes= 1,222,533

NRC votes= 128,684(45.68%).

SDP votes =153,495 (54.4%).

8- Cross River State:

Total Registered votes=876,599

NRC votes=148,079(44.62%)

SDP votes =183,803(55.38%).

9- Delta State:

Total Registered voters =1,155,182.

NRC votes= 145,001(30.7%).

SDP votes = 327,278(69.3%).

10- Edo State:

Total Registered voters =

NRC votes =103,572(3.0%).

SDP votes = 205,407(66.0%).

11- Enugu State :

Total Registered voters =1,291,750

NRC votes =233,281((54.60%).

SDP votes =193,969 (45.40%)

12- Imo State:

Total Registered voters =1,141,630

NRC votes =193,202(55.22%)

SDP votes =156,700(44.78%).

13- Jigawa State :

Total Registered voters = 1,230,215.

NRC votes =89,836(39.3%).

SDP votes =138,552.(60.7%)

15- Kano State :

18- Kogi State :

19- Kwara State :

20- Lagos State :

SDP votes= 883,965(83.54%).

21- Niger State:

Total Registered voters =1,002,173.

NRC votes= 221,437(62%).

SDP votes= 136,350(38.0%).

22- Ogun state :

25- Oyo state:

Total Registered voters =1,579,280

NRC votes= 105,788(16.48%).

SDP votes= 536,011(83.52%).

26- Plateau State:

Total Registered voters =1,513,186.

NRC votes =259,394(38.3%).

SDP votes =417,565(61.7%)

27- Rivers State  :

Total Registered voters=1,908,878.

SDP votes=  379,565(36.99%).

28- Sokoto State:

NRC votes =372,260(79.21%)

 SDP votes= 97,726 (20.79%)

30- Yobe State:

31- Federal Capital Territory-FCT,Abuja:
Total Registered voters =152,686.

NRC votes =18,313(47.84%).


SPD votes = 19,968(52.16%).

The election was annulled by the military President Ibrahim Babangida even when it was adjudged as the must free and fair election in Nigeria as at then.

The June 12 !
