No fewer than 450 girls have been rescued from child traffickers by the Bauchi State government in conjunction with security agents.
This was made known by a member of the Bauchi State High Level Women Advocates, (HILWA), during a press briefing to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, organized by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.
HILWA a non-governmental organisation organised a press briefing to mark the day in conjunction with the state Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and UNICEF at the Destination Hotel in Bauchi.
Abdulkadir who is a Staff of the ministry of education explained that she received an information of  teenage girls that were brought into the state from neighboring states of Zamfara, Jigawa and Sokoto and were dispersed in two batches to Abuja.
“Investigations by security agents in the state revealed that some persons who engage in child trafficking business brought some girls from three northern states of Zamfara, Sokoto and Jigawa into the state.”
“When the traffickers  brought the girls into the state, they camped them at an undisclosed destination in the state where they brought took some girls from Bauchi to be transported to Abuja” She said
“The girls were dispatched into batches. Some of the girls took Kano route while the remaining took Bauchi route to Abuja in order to avoid been detected by security agents on duty on the highways” She said
